I think the aluminum pumps came out long before that.
The old cast iron pumps weighed about 19 pounds according
the Gerry Hess. Tracy mentioned the 13B pumps were all
aluminum. R-Beat has an aluminum racing pump for sale
in the catalog.

We need to find the source for that
sprint car pump Jim Mederer is using on the R Beat 900 HP
three rotors. Looks ideal for high continuous HP Aircraft
use. I need to also look in Granger. Could be something in
there.

Need to clarify this a bit.  The pre-1986 water pump had an iron HOUSING.
86 & later have aluminum.  The pump impeller & cover are iron.  There are
all aluminum pumps available but I'm not sure of the vintage or price.   An
all aluminum pump would save only a couple of pounds.  No big deal.
