Yes which lowers the compression ratio. I don't think that will
be a problem if you use knock sensors and 100LL.
BTW
There is another minor change inside the rotor housing. Some of the
material
is removed around the spark plug bosses to improve cooling but
the R-Beat modification does the same thing.
Jim M of R-Beat told me there are many subtle modifications over the
years to
the water jacket to improve the temperature distribution on the engine.
The idea is to get both sides of the engine the same temp so the engine
does not do the bi-metalic trick and bend into a banana looking down
on it from the top. Thats also why the cold water goes into the hot side
of
the engine and comes out the cold side hot.
Just for academic reasons I would have a couple of dozen temp gages all
over
that engine :-)
