Neil did not say so in his message but he appears to be
adapting a hot rod type hood scoop by sectioning it to
fit under the Lancair 215/360 rear fuselage in this picture.

I assume the triangular slot in the side of the scoop will
be closed up and glassed together in order to taper the 
scoop.
