Hey Neil, just saw the photos of your new radiator set up. From the
size of that radiator I would think your cooling challenges are over.
That is a nice thing about the composites, much easier to mod the
airframe than with a metal bird. I certainly agree with your comments -
unlimited time and money, what one couldn't do. On the other hand, that
would take some of the fun and challenge out of our play.
I believe that the contribution of folks on this list over time will
converge on proven approaches and the pioneer work you and Tracy as well
as others will move the day of the "Rotary Airforce" closer. Flew this
weekend after fixing a seeping leak in the fuel tank. Oil temp never
got above 210F but it was a cool day (40 F OAT). Actually on the way
back to the airpatch, oil temp dropped as low as 130F. Coolant temp
stays below 200F, most of the time around 160F. Still have not got the
RPM in flight above 6000 rpm and probably won't until I change my intake
manifold. But, it was still great flying.
looking forward to hearing how you new radiator does- what is the source
of your oil cooler - does not look like the stock mazda I have?
