Paul,

I actually trashed that hood scoop. I couldn't make it fit right. I bought a
second hood scoop which I cut and chopped severely. Extended the snout,
widened it by 4". Narrowed and tapered the outlet. Contoured the sides and
bottom to fit the rad. After all that it came out too heavy so I made a
mould from it and then made the piece you see on the plane. In simple terms,
I virtually made 4 of the darn things to get the one that's on the plane.

Add to that the shaping on the inside of the scoop to maintain aerodynamics,
build smooth ramps so the air "sees" only the core and not the tanks, top
and bottom plates of the rad, get the proper inlet diffuser shape, and the
outlet shape.

Note that there are no controllable doors (flaps) on the scoop yet. If I
find I need them, then I can either put a door on the outlet (ala P-51) or
hinge the lower lip of the inlet and increase the inlet size.

Thanks to all for the accolades.

Neil

Great work Neil. At least we now know where we can get rad air scoops
for Lancairs. I take this opportunity to thank you for all the people
coming after you building rotary engine powered Lancairs.

I highly recommend the controllable exit door. That is one of the
secrets
that made the P51 work so well.
