Yes, these are diaphram / slide carbs, I think. Has a butterfly valve controlled
by the throttle cable, and a membrane actuated slider. Mikuni's from a '79 Yamaha
XS1100.

What is the needle/needle jet?
I have only found three possible areas of adjustment:

1) Idle mixture screw (in neck of carb facing intake maifold.
2) Main jet (at the bottom of the carb, below the needle actuated by the slider).

3) An air jet on the intake side of the carb. I don't know what that is for.

Then there is the choke/start valve, which seems to bypass the rest of the carb.
