Paul,
I spent the entire four days of Arlington at Arlington camping adjacent
to the main taxi way. I had a fun time but didn't learn much new until
Sunday when I attended two forums conducted by Applied Force Engineering,
Fremont, CA.. Evidently these guys hope to offer two kits based on the Lear
Fan design. Toward this effort they are working closely with an outfit
called LPE that are hoping to certify some current automotive technology to
Continentals and Lycomings, namely EFI and EI as well as coatings, gapless
piston rings and cooling maximizing. According to the presenter these guys
are dynoing engines with these mods with great results - not surprising.
What was surprising is the statement that LPE has done some development with
Mazdas in the area of higher pressure (> 65psi) Bosch injectors yielding
positive results - higher HP, better BSFC and much lower EGTs. These
results were verified through extensive dyno testing. I haven't succeeded
in confirming the veracity of these contentions but they are enticing.
Is anyone familiar with this work? What do you think Paul?
I have heard nothing so far. PL
I am attempting to run down the presenter in an effort to confirm the
information and will report if successful. Tony Livic
