BTW Jeff what is the best way to check for water pump
cavitation?

Would a clear section of hose near the pump and a video
camera work?

How about a microphone near the pump?

Perhaps just powering the pump at max RPM with an external
motor for testing purposes?

I would have to ask PY how the racer guys know about cavitation in the
pumps. There's no guarantee that you'll see anything in a clear line
'cause the bubbles *can* collapse quite quickly. Sound would tip you off
but not unless everything else was pretty quiet. Best way is to notice a
disproportionate gain in flow with increasing RPM or drop in flow with
slight restriction on inlet.

Looks like some sort of flow meter is called for, for trouble shooting
problems. I have heard rumors that the pump won't work over 5000 RPM
if certain hose connections are not made and or the pump housing is
modified in some way.
