Its quite simple Al. You screw the pressure sensor in one of
the spark plug holes and as the tip seal passes that hole while
the starter is turning the engine over (coil disconnected) the
pressure builds up in the combustion chamber. The scope
shows you a picture of this pressure build up as a function
of time. The shape and amplitude of this curve can speak
volumes about the condition of the seals and the rotor
housing surface.

Don't forget you need some once per rev signal to trigger the 'scope.  A
timing light probe would work if nothing else.

A most scopes will trigger off the wave form Jeff.
No need of an external trigger signal.
