The side exhaust should be an overwhelming advantage to those who have
layed on a creeper cleaning the gunk off the bottom of their airplane
with very caustic solvent dripping in their eyes.

Another advantage of having the air coming out of the cowling on
the side of the airplane is there is a low pressure area over the wing.

During climb the entire bottom of the fuselage is a high pressure area.
Not a good place and time to dump cooling air. All the most recent
radial piston engine airplanes had cooling air coming out the side of
the cowling like the Bear Cat and T28.

I am going to do what ever it takes to make it work.

My sister flew T28s for a few years. Did you ever notice that they paint
that big black stripe curving down the side of the fuselage? The best
reason to dump the exhaust (cooling air and engine) is to keep the nasty
black guck off of the **side** of the airplane! :-)

Take care with the CO issue. For instance. An O2 mask is required in
the Sea Fury due to side exhausts feeding fumes into the cockpit.

Take care.

I will keep a close watch Bill thanks.

As far as the gunk is concerned I would rather clean it off
the side of the airplane once a day rather than clean it
off the bottom once a month. Pushers don't have that problem.

The side exhaust Lancair Tigress looked pretty clean at OSH maybe they
wiped it off just after they got there.

The P51 had side exhaust as well. I always wondered why
T-28's were so dirty. Rare Bear does not get that dirty.
It must be the engine they used in T-28's.

One thing we got going for us is we do not have a sliding
canopy. I would think sliding canopy's, such as the Sea Fury
probably used, are near impossible to seal.

With over center pull down instrument case latches such as
I am planning to use I think I can do a pretty good job of sealing
the door on the pilots side. One on the front corner and one on
the rear corner. The other thing possible is an inflatable
door seal. I have a friend with a Commanche with an inflatable
door seal and it works great.
