Hey guys. Although I threw this question out about 2 weeks
ago, I didn't get the answer (in context) that I was looking for
necessarily. I tossed the question of the reliability of your
standard, non-wide band O2 sensor, that you can purchase
for $25 at AutoZone or Pep Boys or whatever, in measuring
true O2 content in the context of air/fuel ratios in very hot
EGT's in terms of wide open throttle and hundreds of
horsepower.
This is a topic of a rather hot debate that's been going on
for quite some time in the racing world (at least with what
I've seen). Even though I believe them to be reliable for
being used in closed-loop mode and what have you, I still
question whether or not a guy like me, that's attempting to
make several hundred horsepower for racing use, can
trust this cheap sensor on a properly-measured air to
fuel ratio meter in the cockpit for measuring the O2 content
accurately when things are nice and cooking in the exhaust.

We don't use them Brian but what I suggest is use two
and compare the readings. If they disagree get a third
and take a vote.
