running the coolant lines back to a radiator under the wing would be

plan to route them?
OOOOOOOO! I don't think Van would like that at all :-) Might not hurt
but he sure would not like it.
If you run those lines inside the fuselage and you had a leak it could
be painful until you got the airplane back on the ground. PL

Thanks Brian. I haven't checked my plans yet, but how much further
forward is this than the standard prop flange location? I like the
simplicity of this idea.
I was picturing the radiator further back.

Mark, why did you rule out the Steve Beckman radiator under the cowl
arrangement? There seems to be plenty of room under the engine for a 16 inch
wide by 20 inch long angled radiator. You would then not have a coolant
external plumbing problem back to the rad mounted under the wing spar. Fred
Moreno thought the angled rad blowing air over the engine was a good idea.
Would work even better with a side exhaust. The side exhaust really
simplifies things a lot. Rare Bear uses side exhaust over the wing and it
apparently does not slow down Rare Bear. PL
