The thrust loading for a direct coupling is many, many times this small PSRU
load. Essentially, you are pushing the entire plane thru a 1/4" wide Torrington
needle bearing (originally designed to only take intermittent throw out bearing
thrust loads). It can't take these higher loads for very long before failing
IMHO.

Bill Freeman came up with a good method to retrofit your combination which I
hope you will consider.
