Jim, order Bruce's overhaul video. He has some tricks in there
for checking the condition of engines without running
them. If you are not turbo'ing the engine any non-turbo
engine after 1989 will work fine. If you are flat rating
turbo'ing the engine any turbo engine after 1989 will work
fine. If you are looking for extra turbo HP at sea level
I recommend something later than 1993. A lot of parts
can be mixed and matched and it is best to do an overhaul
on any engine you are thinking of flying if for no other
reason than looking inside. The main issue is the compression
ratio of the rotors used.
