I know you are working on the right airplane Chris.
The Cosman II.  All we need now is a PSRU that will stand
up to 1000 HP for long enough to qualify and win the race.
Maybe there are some big truck automatic planetary transmissions
out there somewhere that will handle this amount of power.

Anybody have experience along these lines?

Check with any of your contacts at GM to see if they know
anybody at Allison.  They design and mfg planetary transmissions
in the range you need.  Good luck finding an old tank or
earthmover tranny to strip.

My contacts long since retired from GM Bill. The ring finger does
not know what the index finger is doing anyway :-)
