The centrifugal force on the
belt at that rpm is going to mean that there is
little rated hp left over to
actually transmit force from one shaft to another.

Good question. Arrow Gear may have some usable stock
parts.

The gear sets that the race car guys use for their
quick change rear ends are sturdy and cheap (watch
those big fuel burning V8 dirt cars on a rough track
if you want to see driveline punishment). The gear
pair is probably lower cost than a pulley set, tho you
would need two sets to compound for the ratios the
rotary needs, and they have to be mounted more
carefully and lubricated. Vance
Yes.
The box and bearings are heavy because the gears are trying
to push themselves apart. You can't beat a stright cut
planetary as the loads are internal to the ring gear.
Unfortunately the Ford C6 planetary is helical
so thrust bearings are required. Perhaps truck
versions are stright cut as noise is less of a
consideration. The PT6 box looks like stright cut.
