Paul,
Will a digital camera resolution of 640 x 480 show adequate detail in the
kind of pictures E-MAILED to this forum? Do I need zoom?

The most important thing to have with a digital camera is optical zoom.
That way you can frame your pictures with the max number of pixels per
inch. Without that if you have more unneeded area in a picture and after 
you crop it to get just the part you want it becomes very grainy indeed.

640 by 480 is fine but it sounds like an early digital camera and 
most early digital camera's did not have very much zoom range.

As I recall one of the latest Sony's has 10X or maybe 15X optical
zoom. I myself prefer a good 35 mm SLR camera and a cheap $100
scanner for my computer. That is what I am still using. That gives me
maximum flexibilty for taking pictures for the news letter. 
The rez on 35 mmm film is thousands of pixels per inch.

I am still waiting for the perfect digital camera to come down in
price :-) IMHO they have aways to go.
