   My only gear problem was the result of my cowl going through the
prop (in Memphis, my fault, only a few fasteners in).  In that one
case, only three teeth have marks - I call it a "ding".   The gearbox
flew on to Florida and back to New York without noise or any other
problem.  I discovered the marks after a teardown, just part of my
normal routine.  I did replace that one gear.

That incident has proven the strength of the gearset.  You should
have seen the prop (it is now repaired).

The termperature of the gearbox oil is about perfect at 220 to 240 deg F
since I moved the exhaust pipe away from it a few months ago.
