Want a quick and dirty cooling system that is easy to
fab and is not a lot of drag? No room under the cowl?
Try one of these. Type A would be suitable for a pylon
airplane like the Coot and B will work on almost
anything.
These ideas incorporate all I have learned
about angled rad cooling. Thin, large area rads
are used to pass a lot of air at low airspeeds.
The flat plate splitters
are in lue of a more complicated curved diffuser
duct. The outlet ducts are non-existent. Hot air
is merely dumped out into the slipstream.
I doubt you would be able to measure a drag
difference with or without the outlet ducts.
I also doubt one could come up with
a simpler cooling system.
These systems are ideal for a low and slow airplane
like the V6 STOL or the Coot.
