Paul,
Be aware that SCEET has a serious failure mode which
is not possible in SCAT. The inner liner can delaminate
and collapse inward on any suction - type system. This
may cause the loss of carb heat on the C182. I can't use
SCEET in my Longe EZ since it is pulling all air thru a
piece of SCAT. Annual inspection of the SCEET with
a specific look at the possible delam of inner liner should
be made. I would not use SCEET in any application
upstream of a carb without an alternate air source. I
have read about A/C downed due to this spcecific
failure. SCAT, of course, has the steel wire coils to
prevent the fabric from sucking in.

My carb heat air comes from the heat muff on the exhaust pipe.
No ice there so not much of a pressure drop. The main duct takes
air through the filter (possible pressure drop) and that
is not SCEET nor does it look possible in that application
due to size and shape.
SCEET has wire embedded in it as well. It looks to be bonded
together very well. It could be molded all in one piece.
In fact, that would make manufacturing sense. I will cut
some apart and see if I can delaminate it.
I am surprised that they did not mention that in the
AC Spruce catalog. I read about a duct failure on a SeaWind powered
by a Subaru (NTSB). Was that the one you mentioned? Are you sure it was SCEET?
Huge product liability issue here.

Positive that the SCEET inner layer of fabric delam'd and clogged the
intake system. Been a few years ago, perhaps even 10 but was
thinking about SCEET for my LE, went away from it after
reading about this failure mode. The SCEET appears to be SCAT
with an inner liner bonded in. The wire is between layers, only glue
holds the inner layer it, and that can (apparently) deteriorate with
time and temp. I am familiar with the C182 air system (at least
on my '64 model) and it is probably not a serious problem with
this intake system, but you could lose carb heat. Some systems
pull ALL air thru a flex hose and would be at more risk.

Hopefully they have made some improvements. I will take a close look
as soon as I can get up to the hanger. Thanks Bill for warning me.
