If you've got the turbo, the vac instruments don't know if you are
sucking or blowing (hint hint). But, I've never owned a turbo engine.
Does the turbo stop producing pressure at low or idle power?  If yes,
you have no power source during some decent situations.

RE: another post. If you have loss of engine, guess what. It makes no
difference whether your source is the turbo or a/c pump or
alternator/pump or smog pump.

I really like the idea of electric instruments, even though they are
more expensive to purchase. The dual power source will already be there
for the ignition systems.

Maybe the best alternative is dual electrically driven vac pumps, like
someone mentioned for Audis.

This was mentioned a long time ago on here but the airlines use a drop
down wind driven alternator called a RAT. One could also have a venturi
along with the wind driven alternator. 

I think the drop down alternator could be made from
a large 12 Volt DC cooling fan. Disconnect the coils from the motor
circuit and hook them to diodes.
