Here are the Sun 100 race results.
The race course is not really 100 miles. It is 82 kilometers or 94.382 miles.
There are 1.151 miles in a Nautical mile.

The data is sorted by speed. The "CLASS" is the rated HP of the engine but
everybody soups them up and runs them over 3000 RPM anyway. The top speed
is proportional to the cube root of the HP so HP per se is not all that
important.

For example; if your airplane goes 200 MPH on 100 HP it will go
only about 225 with 150 HP. this is roughly the situation Klaus
is in. The rest is made up of improved prop efficiency and lower
aerodynamic drag.

The fast airplanes have paid strict attention to aerodynamic details
such as cooling drag.

A constant speed prop helps as the time is measured from a complete
stop when the flag drops to when you cross the finish line so takeoff
acceleration is important. If you have a fixed pitch prop set for
250 MPH acceleration will suffer greatly during takeoff unless your
airplane has a very high power to weight ratio. If that is the
case poor prop efficiency at real low speeds will not matter much.

Weight on the other hand has little to do with top speed.
