 I'm guessing that both the shape and location help w/ the increase in
power?
waaaay back when I was a teenager, my brother and I use to play with small
block chevy engines and experiment with polishing and porting (allowance
money didn't give us the option of high-rise aluminum intakes).
 Also, is there some place available to get the data for tubing dimensions
and lengths (or formulas) for tuning intake and exaust of a 12A?
Again, thanks for the help and information you've been giving me. I know I
probably ask some really wierd questions in my quest to learn about the
rotary.
I'm excited about getting out to the shop (w/ the manual in hand), and
tearing down the ol' 12A.

Make the exhaust with two 1-3/4 inch pipes about 32 inches long and it
will be about right for 6000 RPM. Shorten them a bit for 7500 RPM.

This on a two rotor engine of course.

The intake will need four 1-1/2 inch pipes about 22 to 24 inches
long. Shorter of course if you run 7500 RPM. Don't forget to put 
bell mouths on the intake pipes where they enter the plenum as 
that alone is worth about 5% more power. Have a street port done
on a side port engine. Mainly smoothing and streamlining the port
where it enters the suction chamber.
