I contacted IvoProp yesterday and spoke to Ron Russell, a technician at the
company. I told him about our ongoing discussion and passed Paul's data to
him via a forwarded email. He is going to present the entire dataset to
Ivo and let him comment on it... it'll be interesting to hear what, if
anything, he has to say about it.
I also asked Ron if he could provide any information on people who are
flying high performance airplanes (>200mph) with the Ivo Magnum and he gave
me the name of a Glasair IIRG builder right here in Fort Myers who has one
mounted on his airplane which is powered by a Lycoming IO360. I contacted
him last night and spoke with him at length about the prop... he tells me
that flat out he has gotten 245 out of it and that he cruises routinely at
205. I'm going to see the airplane either today or tomorrow and hope to
have the opportunity to take a ride with him and see for myself just what
it's all about. He did tell me that the 3-bladed prop at 72" diameter was
too much for his engine, and now that it's been cut back to about 69" it
seems to be performing just where he would expect it to. He has never run
a more conventional CS prop (Hartzell or MT) on his aircraft, as he stepped
up to the Ivo Magnum from a fixed-pitch wood prop, so he is unable to
comment on the Ivo's performance in comparison to them. His performance
has improved considerably since changing to the Ivo from the wood prop,
however, and he appears to be satisfied with the product in over 100 hours
of operation with it on his aircraft. I'll report more after we have our
little get-togehter.
Don't forget to take your handheld GPS with you Marv.
