Here is another thing that is cheap and easy to apply.
Build yourself a water U tube manometer using plastic tubing.

One inch of water is 0.036 psi. Dynamic pressure is 
0.18 psi at 100 MPH and 0.41 at 150 MPH so the manometer needs
to be about 12 inches high. 

Stick it in the back cockpit and use a digital or other 
camera to take snap shots.

Make a bunch of pressure measurements over the back side 
of your cowl covering the stock Mazda intake system. 
Integrate the pressure vectors and you
will have a rough idea of the lift and drag of that cowling.

This will tell you whether it is worth while to build a new 
low profile manifold and a more streamlined cowling.

The manometer can be used on the duct to find out what is
going on with that too.

Build a rig to fix the camera to the manometer. With your level
of vibration you might get fuzzy pictures otherwise.

BTW David Lednicer might be interested enough in your project to
run your airplane through his 3D aircraft pressure simulation 
program.
