Has anyone ever tried to build a solid state artifical horizon using gyro chips and an lcd display?

I think those are rate gyros rather than attitude gyros. Can be done
and I think BF Goodrich is doing it. Next time you go to OSH and it
is on display pick it up and shake it. Last time I tried it... it lost
sync. One must integrate the data from a rate gyro in real time to get 
attitude which is a very error prone procedure when done in software.
Faster processors might help.
