Here's a picture of the new prop shaft for the RD-1A.  Shaft diameter
at
flange end is 45mm.  Material is 4340 thru hardened via heat treat.

Looks very nicely done. Does the shop know what it is for?
Probably an airboat, yeah, an airboat'd be my guess.  ;-)

Good alloy - you can get up to 225Ksi yield out of it,
and even at 200Ksi it has about 14% elongation before
failure - i.e. not brittle.  Chrome-moly alloys are a really
good class of steels for high strength machinery.

So,45 mm OD, I assume behind the step, what is the ID?
What is the fillet radius at the step just behind the flange?

The new prop shaft is a single piece part machined from a forging.  This is
even stronger than machined from billet because of the improved grain
structure.  The radius of the fillet between hub and 45mm shaft is .093".
ID of gun-drilled shaft is .875".

Yeah Bill, airboat it is :-)

I stand corrected. Single forged piece! I am IMPRESSED!!! No pressed on
and welded flange.
