An earlier post indicated the altitude lost doing a STANDARD rate 180
degree
turn after you lose power. That takes 60+ seconds and you WILL lose a
lot
of altitude. You can do better by standing it on a wing tip
(coordinated,
keeping your air speed up) and getting it around quickly. You will also
be
closer to the runway alignment after the turn is completed.
Hope all this good (?) test flying advice is a waist of time.

I think you are right Bob. Has to do with that drag squared term
verses kinetic energy I suspect. Me too. Looks like I will have time to do
some
refresher training as Bill mentioned as this new AD will probably take
a couple of weeks. I will try a few manuevers at altitude.

When in military training, (some time ago),
this is the maneuver we were taught.
Contrary to most civilian training.
You will find a small loss of altitude if executed
properly and immediately upon powerloss
before the airspeed begins to bleed off.
