Usually that is caused by seeping oil rubber O rings on the sides
of the rotors. That can be caused by the rotors overheating.
Do a pressure test on the coolant system to be sure the
water coolant O-rings are not leaking as well which might mean the rotor
housing(s) could be slightly warped due to overheating. I have
a tendency to look on the dark side :-)
In any event sounds like a good deal for a running 13B engine now a days
assuming it has a 13B. Look at the engine just above the spark plugs
and you should be able to see 13B cast on the rotor housings.
I am not sure about which year they started putting the 13B in RX7's.
Come to think about it I don't think they ever fuel injected
the 12A engine. I could be wrong.
In any event new rotor housings will cost you about $400 each so you
are still ahead of the game. When you overhaul it buy those Hurley
Engineering seals and save your self a bunch of money over the stock
Mazda seals. Like $500!
Also get Bruce Turrentines overhaul video. He has some tricks in there
for checking the conditon of the engine while installed in a car.
