Klause claims he has rigged a water spray to spray
water into his O-200 intake.
He claims that this blows the carbon out of the
engine. He claims
that the reason this happens is the parts suddenly
cool and the carbon
bond is broken and the carbon then blows out. He
could be pulling my leg.

Paul - I can believe that water injection can break
down carbon deposits, but not for the reason that
Klause stated. There is a "water gas" reaction, simlar
to the production of so called "producer gas" which
some communities used befor the general distribution
of natural gas. They produced gas from coke (the black
stuff not the white nose powder nor the drink)by
heating it in a fuel rich atmosphere with steam. The
reaction converted carbon to CO2 while releasing some
hydrogen from the water and combined that with the
gaseous hydrocarbons released in the coking process.
You can see a similar effect in converting a used
engine to alcohol fuel since alcohol contains an OH
(not quite H2O). I personally saw this phenomena back
when I was converting my ignition gasoline burning
model airplane engines to "glow" operation ("Gee - the
inside combustion surface on a McCoy red head is red
too!" is roughly what I exclaimed). Vance
