I noticed when flying with Tracy his goes off scale sometimes.

Maybe your gauge is working just fine Ed.  It is true:  I can lean my
mixture to the point where the mixture gauge is off the bottom of the

scale

and the engine will be running fine.  This setting will be way too lean

to

make maximum power however.   I can assure you that a few minutes of

running

on 100LL will not ruin the sensor (at least for our use.)  I have well

over

85 hours of 100LL time on my sensor and it works OK.

Turns out, it looks like you both have hit the "problem".  I went back out
and hooked up the A/F mixture meter and it now appears to work fine.  So
either I had a loose connection or I was simply leaned beyond the capability
of the meter.  Really sensitive to the A/F mixture.  If the engine stumbles
the LEDs reflect the change in A/F immediately.
