I would respectfully differ with this dissertation in one small area. In
nucleate boiling, the vapor bubbles formed are very small and collapse
(recondense) almost immediately upon leaving the hot wall and rejoining the
bulk fluid. In true nucleate boiling, there will not be observable bubbling
or agitation in the expansion tank. Interestingly, heat transfer in nucleate
boiling is a strong function of coolant pressure (the lower the better),
which is contrary to the desire to keep a pressurized system to avoid bulk
boiling and cavitation.
