I recently posted a note here about the Ford E40D planetary gearset that
I saw recently. I went back to measure it and the tranny guy said that it
fits right in place of the c-6 gearset. The differences are that it has six
planetary gears, a steel carrier and a 2.75 to 1 ratio. It would be a choice
for someone who wants to run at 8000 rpm for a time to climb record, or if
that slower speed prop that is supposed to be developed for the TCM/NASA
diesel ever becomes available, it might be possible to use with a rotary and
this gearset.
5775 engine rpm for 2100 at the prop.

Your guy is saying all the right things that I want to hear (fits same spot
as C6, etc) but something is fishy. The planet pinions have nothing to do
with the ratio as this is set by the sun and ring gear. The C6 rear planet
set is a 2.176 - 1 ratio and a planet set for a 2.75 - 1 could not possibly
"fit right in"..

I just checked. My local tx parts supply house did not have one in stock yet.
Brian, what Tracy needs is the diameters of the sun gear, the pinion gears
and the ring gear. With that info we can calculate the ratios. Also check
the small and large diameter of the spline on the ring gear back
bulkhead. If there is one.
