Size is nearly irrelevant.  I have seen a 2000 lb three stage gearbox
with a 100 hp electic motor driving it come apart -- due to a
torsional resonant condition.  One that I predicted analytically,
I might add.  OTOH, only two out of ten "identical" units actually
came apart, so there's alot to this stuff that doesn't fall into the
simple and easy category.
