Make sure you mark all the seals and springs where they came from if you plan
to reuse them. One seal per baggy with a label should work. If its not too
late. Frequently the seals are OK just stuck in the slots from carbon
and other EGR junk Mazda injects into the combustion chamber.
I don't want to gross you out but that is like eating your own......:-)
I have a engine that was overhauled in 1998. The side and rotor housings
are perfect. The back rotor had no compression because one seal was stuck
in its slot. Pictures in a day or so. Strangely enough only one apex
seal on the back rotor had this problem. Probably the engine sat around
and oil coked the slot that was at the bottom of the trochoid. That one
slot is really badly coked up however.
Blocking off the EGR and mixing two cycle oil with the fuel
should completely solve this problem forever and I would not be a bit
surprised if rotaries had a 4000 hour TBO in aircraft use eventually.
Synthetic oil in the sump should also help as it has a much higher
breakdown temp than regular motor oil.
