I just changed oil (for the first time) and considered changing to

1 until

I saw the price ($4.50/qt vs. $0.99 for Discount Autopart's).

Is it really worth it? What's the advantage.

One thing I should mention. The oil I drained (after maybe 40 hours

on the

engine) was dark (black). I didn't think there'd by any blow-by in a

rotary?

I would bite the economic bullet and use Mobil 1. Way better than

regular oil

in resisting break down at high temp. You can get get it in Walmart by

the

case for less than $4.50/qt I think.

Interesting on that dark black. How is your compression?
Was that the cheap  $0.99 oil? Did you lap those end housings?

Very strange.  I change oil at 50 - 70 hour intervals (on the plane) and it
always looks very fresh on the dipstick.   In the drain pan, even the
slightest bit of dirtiness looks dark but when draining the oil it is still
translucent.

I use synthetic (Mobil 1) for its superior shear strength which helps the
redrive gears.
