I measured the port sizes where the top and bottom halves of the FI intake
manifold bolt together. This is an 86 13B. I get 38 mm ID for the outer pipes
and 30 mm for the inner. Total area = 5.71 sq. in.  On the air mass flow
sensor the rectangular passage inside is 65 mm x 45 mm or 4.53 sq. in. Might
this be too small?

It won't hurt to make it bigger and you can be sure it is not a restriction. PL
BTW Tracy's system does not use the mass airflow sensor.

I came across an intake manifold that might help with the aluminum U bend
problem. It is from a 91 FORD ESCORT LX and TIEMPO with the 1.9 SEFI engine.
It has cast AL. flange four AL tube U bends welded to that then short pieces
of straight AL tube welded to that and finally AL tube plenum chamber. looks
like a shorter version of the over the top Mazda manifold some have made. I
did not have a tape measure but the dimensions looked in the ball park. Will
try to get some measurements this week.
