    I remember a couple of the sorties better than the flight I made
yesterday, but that has nothing to do with rotary engines, does it.

  In case it some didn't know, the incident that the song was
written about was when one AF Skyraider was shot down
and the pilot crashlanded alongside an old short dirt airstrip.  Enemy
 troops were very close, shooting at him as he hid behind the plane.  His
wingman drove the attackers back many times with bombing & strafing
attacks, and then a few fake passes after the ordinance ran out. He
finally landed and picked up his buddy and made it back in the
air off of a very short, bomb cratered strip.  Earned and got
the Congressional Medal of Honor;  the plane is in the AF museum
in Dayton.  Navy Spads shot down two MiGs confirmed and several
probables.   Not bad for a slow attack aircraft. Fine men in
a fine airplane.
