The best way to do this is get everybody that is interested together
and buy a whole sheet and have it delivered to the hydro jet cutters.
Lots less wastage and cutting fees. Also we can get real trick with
some fancy shaped weight saving cutouts. The end pieces that support
the rubber bushing can be cut out of the same material at the same time.
I will see if we can organize this next year.

Paul, I might be able to help you out with the 1/2 inch mounting plates if
enough people want them. I deal with Freeberg Industrial here in San Diego
for water jet cutting. They did the 20B intake manifold plates for me, one
of which I used to fab Al Gietzen's manifold. If the quantity is enough (4
or 5?) then it's best to let Freeberg (or whoever does the cutting) deal
with the material. They buy it by the truck load right from the mill so
their price is always better than what we can do. A DXF cad file is the
best way to handle the profile, including any holes. The seal bore (and
starter bore?) obviously needs to be cut undersize and then finished on the
mill. Bolt holes can be cut to size, or cut undersize and finished with a
ream.
For my material need I deal with Industrial Metal Supply in San Diego. They
are not the cheapest around unless you go into their showroom and search
their mountains of rems. Lots of 6061 plate stock for $.99 a pound, 6061
bar stock for $1.67/lb, 7075 bar stock for $1.79 lb, mild steel tube for
$.59/lb, etc, etc. Unfortunately, the sizes and quantities of their rem
selection is always hit-or-miss so you have to go to the showroom and see
what they have. Otherwise their normal (high) price for 6061 is $2.69/lb
unless you buy a bunch.
IMS also stocks 4130 and stainless tube, although I'm not sure of the price.
OK sounds good Cliff. We need to narrow down the exact design although we might
be able to design it so people can cut it off to the exact width that will fit
their cowl.
I think that is a branch of the Burbank store. I could not find any rems big enough
so I had to pay full pop. At $2.69 a pound they sure charged me a lot ($40) for cutting
and delivery.
