Someone recently told me the early German built ducted fan trainer
used a Wankel engine for power. I didn't know this, but from the first
page listed below, appears to date from the early 70's and the Wankel
engine produced 300 HP. Would be interesting to find out what engine
this was.

Acording to Janes All Th e Worlds Aircraft - the original was planned with a
four disc (sic) Wankle of 300 hp but was apparently never built. The first
flying prototype had two Wankels, and the second an Allison turboshaft, The
"production" aircraft went with the Allison. With over 400 hp the performance
was pretty mundane just a bit over 200 tops. The primary goal was a cheaper
trainer with many of the same characteristics as a jet - poor accelleration,
little slow down with engine chop, no prop wash on the tail to help control
effectiveness etc. The design was apparently met with an enthusiastic yawn.
