I live in the Antipodes.  In fact,  I'm only 10 minutes drive from the CBD
of that city,  recently made famous for hosting the 2000 version of the
"Five Ringed Circus",  or as  Juan Antonio called it: ... "Cid-en-ay".
 Here is "hot and humid" Sydney (we have just had the obligatory week of 38
+ deg C [100.4 F] and 85% humidity),  we drive on the left hand side of the road,
 and the tiller is on the right hand side of the vehicles (except ex US
Army Jeeps and Street Sweepers!).

In the Virgin Islands they drive on the left
and sit on the left of all things. :-)  At least in England they drive
on the left and sit on the right.

Yeah,  we as you may or may not know,  our Constitution is based on the
Poms' one. Queen Liz is still Head of Government.  So most of our quaint
customs have sort of trickled down from "The Mother Country". Even
Parliament is still opened each morning with the "Lords Prayer".  No wonder
there is a sizable element (mainly Chardonnay Socialists and Crypto
Communists) that wishes to change our Constitution.  God how must it stick
in their throats!!  Anyway,  I digress ...

 While hear in the US of course we sit
on the left and drive on the right.

If I were designing something I might put a 10 qt. half full cylindrical
oil tank on the oil
pump axial center line right in front of the engine and use a more or less
horizontal flop
tube pick up. This might work with everything except a full power vertical
dive.
To solve that problem might be real difficult.

Yeah,  I agree.  The flop tube will go a long way to removing transients,
 but it won't still solve the sustained the sustained inverted or knife
edge flight.  Even with a Christen system on a Lycoming,  I can see
problems with knife edge flight.

A neat little device I've seen and still use is called a "Boda Turbo Lube'.
Do they still make them?  It's a pressure bottle holding about a litre of
oil that has a spring loaded diaphragm and a check valve.  When the engine
is turned off.  It supplies a stream of oil into the turbo bearing to
prevent the worst of the carbonising.  Water cooled turbos have lessened
the need,  but it is still a nice idea.

Another mob that make something similar called an  "Accusump" for engine
oiling.  (http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/accusump.htm ).  I can see
this as a partial solution, and excellent for momentary oil pressure loss,
 but it still doesn't solve it for sustained negative or almost zero G
maneuvers.

I would feed all scavenge lines in on a tangent to the tank so the swirl in
the tank
should de-aerate the oil by centrifugal force.

Again,  I fully agree,  I have been an avid student of Caroll Smith for
many years,  and his designs work wonderfully well. Passing it through a
layer of finely woven stainless mesh also assists in de-aeration.   Aviaid
( www.aviaid.com ) also make a really nice one that can be fully dismantled
for cleaning,   but it still won't work if the thing is on its side or
upside down.

By the way, (and totally digressing, ... as I am apt to do),  you're a
racer of repute;  any idea how I get in contact with Caroll Smith.  I would
really like to send him an email and thank him for the wonderful stuff he
has written over the years. (I never seem to get around to "snail mail"!)

Here is a suggestion for an acro oil tank. You will need a similar valve for the
vent. Not sure if this will work. Just my first guess. If the valve sticks in
the dive position the engine is history.
