    Paul and Rick,
       It sounds  IMHO like the excessive play is
between the input shaft and eccentric shaft on Rick's
2.17 Ross drive,not the output(prop)shaft. Make sure
we are all talking about the same thing. You don't
want to take a Ross prop shaft apart if you don't need
to! Adding a thrust bearing to the input shaft and using
this brg. to adjust input shaft end play will take care
of this problem.
