    I may be mistaken, but did not Jon caution about Mazda not

keying their

Pulleys until after they were installed?  And therefore, the timing

marks

make be at different relative positions on the pulley of different

engines?

Just thought I recalled that, but could be mistaken.

That keyway is 90 degrees CCW from top dead center on rotor number
one. Sounds like you are 90 degrees out. Good idea about scribing the
line.
