As long as I'm taking my 2.17 redrive apart anyway, are there
adjustments to the drive ratio that can be made by changing the fixed vs
rotating components? I know the formulas for getting the gear ratio and
wonder if it's possible to get a 3.17 ratio from it. If not, can the
components be converted to a 2.85?

Rick

I think 3.17 is possible Rick by modifying the parts you have.
You need to fix the ring gear to the housing somehow and connect
the planet carrier to the prop shaft. Then is should be possible
to add a Jerry Bass type thrust bearing.

Art Luther could probably handle the work on this if he can find
some time if you don't want to do it your self.

Converting to a 2.85 would require getting another gear set
from Ford I suspect.

Your parts are on the right and the 2.85 or on the left.

Please remember that the direction of rotation changes when you change from
2.17 to 2.85 :) you will need to change props.
