Take a look at the Samsung flat LCD office monitor.
15 inch diagonal 1024 by 768 much much brighter than any lap
top LCD I have seen so far. I think the reason for this is
bright LCD's suck a lot of power from the battery while these
desktop units have an unlimited supply.

I suspect that the 110 volt power
supply can be bypassed and it will run off 12 volts directly.
Less than $500. The other brands I have seen are not as bright
and the color saturation is not as good. Some use wall transformers
leading me to believe the 110 volt supply can be bypassed in
the Samsung.
