It seems everybody but me knows the distinction between the various
"Generation" rotary engines. I have a n.a. 6 port, year unknown, for
my aircraft project. There is an n.a. six port in my l988 RX-7.
What generation are these engines? What is the most desirable
engine? I have owned the RX-7 for one month and am totally in love
with the total package, engine, handling, looks. I bought it to
gain familiarity with the rotary, but now am just as passionate about
the car as I am about my 13-B/ Tailwind. Jerry
Those are 2nd gen engines. Anything after 89 is real good.
The most desirable is a third gen 2001 RX7 engine from Japan not counting
the side exhaust port engine coming out next year in the RX8. The 3rd gen
RX7 started in 1993.
First gen RX7 engines were all 12A's as I recall but there were 13B's
as far back as 1973 in RX4's, Cosmo's(RX5?), and Mazda pickup trucks.
