The fuselage plug was foamed in between the bulkheads, glassed, and then
filled and sanded until we had a great finish. I believe there are pictures
of this on the site. The tan finish you see on the plug now is super
expensive DuPont primer, hence the reason we used the PVA mold release for
the female mold. The primer was sprayed on with and HVLP.
Paul Lamar asked:
What is HVLP?
High Volume, Low Pressure. It refers to a painting process that uses a
turbine/blower instead of a compressor. One can get much better control of paint
applied with HVLP equipment (overspray, etc.)
Chris continues bragging:
We took the fuselage top out under the big maple tree out front, propped it
up on the picnic table and trash cans, then sat under it in lawn chairs
making airplane noises. It is huge on the inside. We're thinking of using
the amusement park method of giving rides... "..you must be at least this
tall to ride this ride. If you are not this tall, please see the Vans booth
next door." Don't worry, you all will get rides.
Chris, if I can fit comfortably (height-wise), you'll have 99.99% of the
population covered. I sit 39.5" tall (pants bottom to scalp). Don't forget to
add seat crush space and headset band room to that dimension... :-)
