I am installing a tangential muffler along side the exhaust ports.
The muffler exhausts straight out the side of the cowl. What I am
worrying about is heat build up inside the cowl. I am particularly
concerned about the intake manifold and fuel rail as these are only
inches away from the muffler. I am planning on putting a thin ss
heat shield between these components and the muffler. Do I also need
to provide a way for heat to escape the cowl such as louvers above
 the muffler? Thanks, Jerry

Same on the stock car Jerry. One of the reasons for using a long intake
over the top of the engine is to get the fuel rail on the other cool side
of the engine.

Good idea on the heat shield. Tracy had a lot of
trouble with this at first.

The louvers might slow you down a bit
but I have no idea by how much. Sure worth a try on a new airplane
as you could always plug them up and smooth them over later if they
did not help the heat and they did slow you down too much.

Re the long intake and the cool side fuel rail, is there a drawing
or photo showing the details. I would feel much better, if I could
move the fuel rail to the cool side. I just checked the ACRE web
site and there is a picture of Chuck Dunlops long intakes but the
fuel rail is on the hot side. Jerry

Here is a drawing of what I intend to do and a picture of Jim Mederea's
900 HP turbo three rotor.
