The guys at Mazdatrix probably covered this already but if nothing else
turns up, consider the possibility that oil foaming could be the cause of
the pressure drop.  Usually it occures around 4500 rpm and only about a 10 -
20 psi drop but every situation can be different.  I use an anti foaming
tray in the oil pan (part of my engine mount )and it eliminated the pressure
drop completely.  I'd check out the other possibilities first though.

Mine looks similar to Perrys but I don't have that big hole in the middle.
Other than the minimum size hole to attach the oil pickup tube and pass the
pressure regulator there are only a few 1/2" holes.   If I'm looking at it
right, that big hole in the middle would defeat the oil/air separation of
the plate.

OK, combining these two suggestions, maybe I can mount a screen to
the plate under that big hole.  That way I wouldn't have to remove the
engine from the plane, only the oil pan to get access.
