VFR operations still prohibited, IFR OK with restrictions
9/17/01 11:27:27 AM - On Monday morning, VFR operations are still

prohibited in the United States, with the exception of Alaska. The FAA

has also re-grounded Part 137 agricultural operations. General aviation

(Part 91) IFR operations are permitted with restrictions. All flight

 plans must be from airport to airport. Clearances must be obtained on the

ground. No air-files will be permitted, and cancellations must be

made on the ground. Pilots should monitor the emergency frequency (121.5

MHz) and review intercept procedures. Pilots must review the

latest notams.

Even the minimal opening up for IFR is largely BS.   Several local pilots
have tried to file IFR flight plans and curtly told that there was no time
to talk to them and try later.  Finn was "escorted" from the airport by
police for just WORKING on his airplane.   Frankly, I'm terrified.

Calm down Tracy.  You have nothing to worry about. You are not 
an arab........ you aren't.... are you? :-)

You are isolated up there. Way out in the country.  Here in LA things are 
rapidly returning to normal. Nobody in Santa Paula was escorted
from the airport nor are there any officials, FAA or otherwise, around at all.
The ban on VFR flights is being achieved voluntarily

Finn's experience is probably an isolated over reaction by local authorities.
Chances are nothing is going to happen at all if Ben Laden is turned
over by  Afghanistan to Pakistan. If they don't turn him over
they are more stupid than I thought.
